Really?

OK- this veg head is about to get on her soapbox...

If you haven't heard about it yet, Lady Gaga wore a dress made of raw meat cuts to the VMA's and claimed it was in support of gay rights. She said that it was symbolic of the thought "If we don't stand for what we believe in, we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones."

First thought- Is that even a coherent statement? How does that make any sense at all?
Second thought- Perverse imagery aside, how is that directly related to your cause as a gay rights activist?

I really don't get it. When I first saw the dress and the meat bikini, I thought they would be a take on America's over-dependence on meat and the subsequent factory farms, e. coli outbreaks, animal abuse, and slaughterhouse horror stories that have come to be so Americans can have their big macs. If you think The Jungle solved the slaughterhouse issue, think again. THAT would make sense to me... as long as the meat wasn't real, and dear goodness I hope the meat wasn't real.

Don't get me wrong- I think the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy was pretty bogus; however, I also think Gaga was using it as an excuse to pull another publicity stunt. Most of the time, I don't mind her publicity stunts, in fact- I'm a fan of her music and individuality for sure. But really? That's just disgusting. And a completely misdirected waste of animal life and resources.

That is all.

  1. I can absolutely see where you're coming from.
At first I really paid attention to her when she came out. Not so much now. Don't get me wrong, I still love her music (especially in Zumba class and for running). But I could spend half the day focusing on her publicity stunts! The list goes on and on with her...

I didn't see all of the VMA's. Was she sitting at all in that dress? All I can think of is nasty death sticking to the seat or anything it bumped against. Ick!

  2. Yeah she was sitting in it! She accepted an award from Cher in it and had to ask Cher to "hold her meat purse" lol! As much as I hated the dress, I found it comical to watch people hug her. No one wanted to touch her too much! She looked like a walking sanitation hazard, which is reason #2 why I really hope the meat wasn't real.
